Iran and Turkmenistan plan to build a new pipeline for the transfer of Turkmen natural gas to the Islamic republic, the Iran Daily reports Sunday.

"Given the closeness of Turkmenistan's gas resources to Iran's border, a new gas pipeline is to be constructed in the near future for transferring Turkmen gas to Iran in addition to the existing Korpeje-Kurt Kui pipeline," the paper cites Iran's ambassador to Turkmenistan Mohammad Reza Forqani as saying to the the semi-official Fars News Agency.

Forqani said National Iranian Gas Export Co. head Seyyed Reza Kasaeizadeh met with his counterpart at Turkmenistan's state-run Turkmengaz over the Iranain weekend, on Thursday and Friday, reports Iran Daily.
