The U.S. administration is worried that Italy's energy policy is too dependent on Russia, the La Stampa newspaper reported Monday citing diplomatic sources.
"Italy's
interest should be to diversify its supplying sources, while this way
it's increasing its dependence on Moscow," a diplomat familiar with the
matter is quoted as saying.
Italy's
energy giant Eni Spa (E) is the main partner of Russian gas company OAO
Gazprom (GAZP.RS) in the South Stream project, which is seen as a
competitor of the E.U.-backed Nabucco gas pipeline that bypasses
Russia.
