Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, at a meeting with his Kazahstan counterpart, Nursultan Nazarbayev, also called for more cooperation within the Caspian Pipeline Consortium and broader energy cooperation including the modernization of both states' aging Soviet-era pipeline, rail and road infrastructure, the report says.

Medvedev also called for the integration of Siberia's power grid with that of Kazakhstan in order to address shortfalls caused by August's accident at a Siberian power plant in which at least 74 people died.
