Russia's state-controlled gas monopoly Gazprom plans to expand its underground gas storage facilities (UGS) abroad to 6.5 billion cubic meters by 2016, the company's CEO said on Friday.
The current volume of the company's underground gas storage facilities abroad totals 2 billion cubic meters.
Gazprom is currently constructing gas storage facilities in Serbia, The Netherlands, Hungary and the UK as part of its new transport routes programme. The company also plans to construct storage facilities in Turkey, Romania, Slovenia and several other states, Alexei Miller said at the company's general annual meeting.
"All these projects will boost Gazprom's capacity to 3.3 billion cubic meters by 2013, and to 6.5 billion cubic meters by 2016," he said.
