Russia's energy giant Gazprom and Qatar are in discussions over potential joint investment projects including cooperation in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region, Gazprom said on Wednesday.

Russia's energy giant Gazprom and Qatar are in discussions over potential joint investment projects including cooperation in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region, Gazprom said on Wednesday.

"In particular, the parties discussed possible joint investment projects between Gazprom and Qatar Petroleum as well as cooperation on the markets in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region," the company said.

The two sides are paying special attention to development trends on the global energy market and broader strategic partnership within the Gas Exporting Countries Forum, which unites the world's leading gas producers.

Qatar, which ranks third in the world by natural gas reserves, earlier offered Gazprom to take part in LNG production projects after 2014 when a moratorium on additional natural gas development projects at Qatar's massive North Field is expected to be lifted. The moratorium was placed by the Qatari government in 2005 to allow time to consider the field's development.
