The European Commission Tuesday approved EUR49.06 million in aid from
the Italian government for the construction of a solar-cell manufacturing plant
in
Sicily
.
The aid is in line with European Union rules that allow governments to
subsidize projects in
Europe
's poorer regions, like
Sicily
, the
commission said.
The plant will be constructed by 3Sun Srl, a joint venture between
STMicroelectronics NV (STM), Sharp Corp. (6753.TO) and Enel Green Power SpA (EGPW.MI).
