Saudi Arabian Oil Co., or Saudi Aramco, said Wednesday it has completed
wide-ranging maintenance at its Yanbu refinery on the
Red
Sea
coast.
Yanbu's crude tower trays were upgraded to a new type of high-capacity
stainless steel tray as part of a total revamp to improve the diesel quality
and allow a refinery throughput increase to 250,000 barrels per day, Aramco
said in a statement posted on its website.
The continuous catalyst regeneration/platformer reactors' center pipes and
scallops were also upgraded to a more robust design to improve the reactor's
reliability, it said.
The extensive maintenance work, which occurs every five years, began February
1. and ended March 10., Aramco said.
The refinery previously processed around 225,000 barrels of crude a day,
producing gasoline, diesel, fuel oil, jet fuel and liquid petroleum gas for
domestic use.
