The French nuclear safety agency Autorite de Surete Nucleaire, or ASN, Monday said it had called for nuclear operators in France to submit by Sept. 15 a preliminary report regarding the safety of their major operations, as part of the audit of all French nuclear installations following the accident in Fukushima, in Japan.

The reports will be studied by Nov. 15, the ASN said in a statement.
These reports are part of additional safety assessments for the French nuclear
installations, the ASN explained.

nuclear plant will be "a long process that will take several years. But
preliminary lessons can already been drawn," the ASN said.
The preliminary reports will focus on "extreme natural phenomena, putting
installation safety devices under pressure and leading to a serious accident,"
the ASN explained.
