French hydropower generation so far this year has fallen 30%
year-on-year because of the current drought, the country's Industry and Energy
Minister Eric Besson said Monday in a TV interview.
However, there shouldn't be any concern about electricity supply in France as
the country's nuclear power plants have enough water for cooling nuclear
reactors, Besson said in an interview with local cable TV station LCI.
Water levels at French dams and reservoirs are low after the country
experienced its driest and warmest spring on record, state-controlled utility
Electricite de France SA (EDF.FR) said last month.
EDF is the largest hydropower generator in the European Union, with an
installed capacity of 20 gigawatts.
