China is likely to face a power shortage of 30 million kilowatts this summer, with particular troubles in the provinces of Zhejiang and Jiangsu and the metropolis of Chongqing, state radio reported Friday, citing National Development and Reform Commission Vice Chairman Liu Tienan.

Daily electricity output is likely to hit or surpass 15.5 billion kilowatt-hours when it peaks around late July to early August, up 11% or more from last year's peak, Liu said in the report.

The NDRC and
China 's energy administration will "soon" approve thermal-electricity or power-grid projects that can ease supply problems in areas like Chongqing , Shanghai , Guangdong and Shandong , Liu said, according to the report.
