Italian energy giant Eni SpA is in talks to build a natural
gas plant and to help increase gas production in Pakistan, according to Italian
business tabloid MF Thursday.
Eni is in talks with the country's government to build a 400 MW gas plant at a
cost of about $600 million, it says without citing any sources.
It is also being considered by the government as a strategic partner for
Pakistan Petroleum Ltd. to help it increase production at a hydrocarbon field.
Eni has also agreed to work with Portugal's Galp Energia SGPS S/A to drill
offshore Mozambique. Should the two obtain an eight-year concession from the
government, they would likely start drilling in September, MF says.
An Eni spokesman wasn't immediately available for comment.
