Exxon Mobil Corp. said Thursday that it is shutting down
production of about 8,000 barrels of oil and 50 million cubic feet a day of
natural gas in anticipation of the passage of Tropical Storm Don through the
western U.S. Gulf of Mexico.
A spokesman for the world's largest publicly traded company said that Exxon is
evacuating nonessential personnel from offshore facilities in the path of the
storm.
"ExxonMobil is closely monitoring Tropical Storm Don and continues
preparation for severe weather along its Gulf Coast oil and gas
operations," the spokesman said.
