will
tighten emission standards for thermal power plants for the first time since
2003, the state-run China Daily reported Thursday, citing the Ministry of
Environmental Protection.
The move may cost the thermal power industry a combined CNY260 billion (US$40.7
billion) in upgrading facilities to meet the new standards, the ministry said.
The new standards, which take effect from Jan. 1, target pollutants such as
sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxide and soot, among others.
