Ukraine won't let any Russian gas into its pipeline system Wednesday, despite Russian requests to restart gas flows to Europe, Ukraine's state gas firm Naftogaz said Wednesday.

"The situation hasn't changed since yesterday," said Naftogaz spokesman Valentin Zemlyansky.

Wednesday morning Russian state gas firm OAO Gazprom (GAZP.RS) requested transit of 98.8 million cubic meters of gas through Ukraine to Balkan countries and to Slovakia, but the gas is being send to the wrong entrance point, Zemlyansky said.

Naftogaz won't open the taps for "technical reasons," he added.

Russia stopped the gas flow to Ukraine on Jan. 1, after failing to reach a deal with Kiev on gas payments and pricing.

Later, Moscow also halted shipments destined for Europe, saying Ukraine was stealing gas intended for Europe. That has left many Europeans without central heat in freezing temperatures.
