French oil major Total SA (TOT) and compatriot tiremaker Compagnie Generale des Etablissements Michelin SA (ML.FR) Tuesday denied a report linking them to possible tax irregularities involving accounts in Liechtenstein.

The Le Parisien newspaper reported that Paris prosecutors were preparing to investigate the two companies, along with German sports clothing and footwear group Adidas AG (ADS.XE).

A spokeswoman for Adidas declined to comment by email.

A spokeswoman for Total formally denied the company having a "foundation in Liechtenstein linked to fiscal fraud."

Total, she said, has nothing in Liechtenstein except two service stations.

Michelin's spokeswoman said the company denies all the information in the report in Le Parisien.
