Russian gas company OAO Gazprom (GAZP.RS) and Greek gas company DESFA have agreed to set up a consortium to build the South Stream gas pipeline section across Greece, Russian news agency RIA Novosti reports on its Web site Tuesday, citing a source close to the negotiations.

"The accords have been agreed upon and their signing is expected in coming days," the source is quoted as saying.

The South Stream pipeline will pump 31 billion cubic meters of gas a year from central Asian and Russia to the Balkans and other European countries.

Russia and Greece signed in April 2008 an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the construction and operation of the Greek section of the pipeline.
