Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Wednesday that Turkey won't open its border with Armenia before the neighboring country ends its "occupation" of the disputed Nagorno Karabakh region, Turkish newspaper Hurriyet reports on its Web site.

Erdogan made the comment during a joint press conference with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Baku, the paper reports.

Turkey closed its border with Armenia in 1993 in solidarity with Azerbaijan over the conflict in Nagorno Karabakh, an Armenian-majority region located within Azerbaijan.

Turkey and Armenia, however, agreed last month on a "road map" deal for U.S.-backed talks that could lead to the normalizing of ties and the opening of their border.
