Iraq will invite Egyptian oil and gas companies to drill wells in Iraq's oil and gas fields and extend pipelines connecting wells and production stations, Iraq's oil minister said Wednesday.

"We need Egyptian companies to drill wells, extend pipeline networks and build reservoir and surface installations," Hussein al-Shahristani told a news conference held with his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Fahmi in Baghdad.

The Iraqi Oil Ministry has sought companies to drill hundreds of wells in southern oil fields over the last few months.

"Egyptian companies possess good experience in these spheres," Shahristani said following a meeting with Fahmi.

Shahristani also said Egyptian companies are also invited to rehabilitate and develop Iraq's existing refineries.
