The Russian government has asked Ukraine to remove two senior diplomats, in a tit-for-tat measure, RIA Novosti reports Thursday.

"The Ukrainian ambassador was notified that Russia proposes that Ukraine consider recalling its consul general in St. Petersburg and one of the counselors at the Ukrainian embassy in Moscow," the Foreign Ministry said.

Ukraine earlier asked the Russian consul general in Odessa and the senior counselor at the Russian embassy to end their work in Ukraine, the report says.
