The European Commission will propose in a few weeks binding measures to
boost energy saving in the European Union and set the bloc on track to meet a
goal of being 20% more efficient in 2020, the commission's Energy Chief said
Wednesday.
"These binding measures will strengthen our energy efficiency policy and
get us to the 20% energy efficiency target by 2020," Guenther Oettinger
said in a statement.
The commission will for example propose that EU countries will have to renovate
3% of their public buildings every year, twice as much the current rate, link
public procurement to energy efficiency targets, and require large companies to
undergo energy audits, it explained.
