Alstom SA (ALO.FR), a French manufacturer of power turbines and trains, said Monday it obtained a 400-million-euro ($500 million) contract from Power Grid Corp. of India Ltd. (532898.BY) to provide transmission lines between several regions in central and northern India .

The project includes project management, design, engineering, training, manufacturing, civil works, construction and commissioning, Alstom said.

Last month, the company said it was amassing orders for its trains and heavy-duty power equipment from emerging markets, which have huge transportation and energy needs.
